DNA extraction is the first step in detection, identification and characterization of microorganisms; it is also used to better understand genetic abnormalities (e.g. cancer). Current DNA extraction methods require multi-step protocols and time consuming processes, such as freezing with liquid nitrogen, pulverization, and centrifugation. These protocols take two hours, sometimes as much as two days. Using a prototype product, the PlasmaGen APR-510-S, AGT has performed extensive tests on a variety of microorganisms. Our researchers found that the PlasmaGen APR-510-S can prepare DNA for further analysis in 90 seconds or less.
The PlasmaGen APR-510-S has been validated by third-party independent tests and has been used to successfully prepare DNA from a mixture of five different microorganisms.
